Bear Mountain Golf Course: Chelan, Washington

"Golf is not a sport.  It is a way of life."

On the southern hillside above Lake Chelan is Bear Mountain Golf Course, one of my absolute favorite golf courses in the country.  I've done a lot of traveling and played a lot of different courses but can honestly say that Bear Mountain is a favorite of mine.  I love that it is so close to my home in Wenatchee, Washington.

Bear Mountain is 35 miles north of Wenatchee on Hwy 97.  It takes about 45 minutes to get there by automobile.  Bear Mountain is an absolute pleasure to play because it is in such a beautiful location and nearly every hole has an amazing view of Lake Chelan, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Washington.

You want to know why this is a wonderful golf course for senior women?  No matter how good or bad your game is on any given day, you can't help but be in awe of the beauty and how lucky you are just to be there.

The staff at Bear Mountain is always extremely friendly like they're sincerely glad to have you there.  Sometimes I find a chauvinist attitude at other golf course but not at Bear Mountain. They love us senior women golfers.

Bear Mountain doesn't have a full restaurant, but they have a very nice little cafe on the lower level, overlooking the 18th green. It's a great place for a snack at the turn and a cold beverage after your round.

If you make an early tee time, you can go wine tasting and have dinner at one of the many options in the area.  Chelan is chock full of restaurant choices (and some 30 wineries) but one of my favorite choices for after golf is the Karma Vineyards which is a 7-minute drive down the hill and around the corner from the golf course.   The unique thing about Karma is they specialize in champagne tastings, not just wine.  Complement a day of golf at Bear Mountain with the champagne tasting and some appetizers (or a full meal) and you have a day made in Heaven.

Introducing The Golf Bag Blog For Senior Women Who Love Golfing

"Golf is like life.  You can make a good shot and get a bad lie.  Or you can make a bad shot and get a good lie. Play the ball where it lies."
I started golfing in my early 20's but didn't golf regularly until after I got married in my early 30's.  My husband and I loved golfing together and took our clubs with us wherever we went.

At the age of 66, I've been a widow now for nearly 8 years. After a rather extended period of grief and transition, I'm finding a lot of comfort and enjoyment out of golfing with my widowed and otherwise single lady friends who enjoy golf as much as I do.

In that spirit, I thought it would be fun to start a blog on all things golf for women in their senior years. I'm just an Old Bag enjoying my senior years, looking for like minded people.

This picture above was taken at Bear Mountain Golf Course in Chelan, Washington.  I've traveled extensively and golfed many courses.  This is one of my very favorites anywhere.  One of the great benefits of playing Bear Mountain is that even if you're having a bad game, the amazing views help ease the pain.

The other course in Chelan is the Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course.  The municipal course also has excellent views and also leaves a lasting impression of their challenging elevated greens.

Who wants to join me in my journey through life as a Senior Golf Bag?
